Collaborating With The Center For Open Science, Meta Will Share User Data For Research Purposes

JAKARTA Meta established a partnership with the Center for Open Science (COS), a non-profit technology organization. Through this collaboration, COS has the right to access Meta social media data for them to be careful.

Later, the data that COS gets will be researched by selected academic researchers. They will study topics related to welfare because social media, especially Meta, is closely related to society.

Therefore, Meta's internal data will be used to understand whether or not a factor has an impact on welfare. This data testing process will use new research processes such as pre-registration and initial review.

This testing process will begin with a question proposal and methodology from academic researchers, then questions and methodologies will be reviewed by colleagues. After going through the review process, the results of the research will be further observed.

COS Senior Research Director, Tim Errington, welcomed this partnership with optimism. According to Errington, this partnership shows significant steps for the research community as social media such as Meta wants to directly support research into its applications.

"Collaboration between academics and industry aims to set new standards for the best practices in sharing ownership data among the research community, which ultimately benefit the public interest," said Errington.

Meanwhile, Meta's Vice President of Research, Curtissmen, considers this partnership as a form of Meta's contribution to scientific community understanding. Given that the research process will require social media data, Meta will guarantee the privacy of its users.

Although this partnership has been announced, the initial planning stage of the research will take place in the coming months. This research may take a long time, but Meta believes the results of COS research could be a model for other research companies.
