JAKARTA - With the enactment of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) on March 7, Spotify will allow users in Europe to purchase or update subscription plans directly in the app.

Currently you can't upgrade from Free to Premium in the app. In fact, Spotify admits that customers don't know how much the original price of Spotify Premium subscriptions is.

"That doesn't make sense. For everyone living in the EU, this will change," the music streaming platform wrote in its announcement, quoted Thursday, January 25.

With this change, Spotify hopes that users can buy Premium subscriptions or audiobooks, or want to upgrade smoothly from Individual to Duo or Family packages, with just a few clicks.

"Thanks to DMA, we look forward to the future of superfan clubs, alternative app stores, and giving content creators the ability to safely download Spotify for Artists or Spotify for Podcasters directly from our site and that's just the beginning," he concluded.

In addition, Spotify also said that this move will help companies evade 30% of Apple's cost for purchases through its App Store, which has long been a source of dispute between app developers and tech giants.
