JAKARTA - Technology company Apple is reportedly planning to add new costs and restrictions when allowing third-party software downloads beyond its App Store. This was reported by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, January 25.

This news comes months after the European Union imposed the Digital Markets Act (DMA) to target market dominance of big tech companies and make it easier for people to switch between competing services. All Big Tech companies must comply with DMA until March 7.

The WSJ report also states that Apple's plan, which will only apply in Europe, will allow users to download software to iPhone for the first time without using the App Store.

On Monday, January 22, Meta Platform Inc., announced plans to comply with the law, in which the social media company stated that users would be given more options on how they consume their services.
