JAKARTA - Over the past year, from January 2023 to January 2024, the Ministry of Communication and Information has succeeded in handling 204 hoax issues reported regarding the 2024 General Election.

According to Deputy Minister of Communication and Information, Nezar Patria, there is still the possibility of increasing the spread of hoaxes, due to the dynamics of the ongoing elections.

Nevertheless, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics continues to strive to keep the digital space healthy from spreading hoaxes, including regarding elections with three levels of activity, from upstream to downstream.

At the upstream level, Nezar said that Kominfo is committed to continuing to improve public digital literacy through the National Digital Literacy Movement (GNLD).

Meanwhile, at the middle level, Kominfo takes steps to prevent the spread of hoaxes, through fact checking such as moderating content and removing hoax content, along with digital platforms.

"This aims to ensure the spread of factual information while at the same time cutting off the flow of hoaxes," said the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information in its release, quoted Thursday, January 18.

Meanwhile, at the downstream level, Nezar emphasized that Kominfo plays an active role in supporting law enforcement carried out by the Indonesian National Police through the provision of data and information.
