Directorate General of Narcotics Control of DKI Jakarta Appreciates the Arrest of Drug Smugglers in Prisons and Detention Centers: Zero Halinar

JAKARTA - The Head of the DKI Jakarta Directorate General of Corrections Regional Office, Wachid Wibowo, said the success of uncovering the smuggling case in one night showed the strong commitment of the corrections staff in creating a clean prison and detention center environment from drugs.

"The success of the officers in thwarting the drug smuggling attempt at almost the same time is proof that the security system, early detection, and supervision throughout the DKI Jakarta Penitentiary Unit is running well," said Wachid when confirmed, Tuesday, June 16.

Wachid also gave appreciation to all prison and detention center officers who remained on standby, professional, and ethical in carrying out their duties.

Wachid emphasized that the Jakarta Regional Office of the Directorate General of Prisons and Penitentiaries would not provide any space for the circulation of drugs or other prohibited goods in prisons and detention centers.

"We are fully committed to implementing the directions of the Minister of Immigration and Corrections and the Director General of Corrections to realize Zero Halinar," he said.

Any smuggling attempt will be dealt with according to applicable laws.

"We will continue to strengthen supervision, improve the quality of inspections, and strengthen synergy with law enforcement officers to ensure that prisons and detention centers in the DKI Jakarta region are completely free of drugs," he said.

Wachid said that the disclosure of the case in one day was also proof that the prison system continued to strengthen the prevention and eradication of drug trafficking as part of efforts to maintain security, order, and integrity in the prison environment.

The success of this failure is proof that the security system is running and officers are working with integrity.

"We will continue to strengthen synergy with law enforcement officers and conduct continuous evaluations so that prisons and detention centers in the DKI Jakarta region remain free of drugs, illegal cellphones, and illegal collection practices," he said.

Previously, officers at the Jakarta Central Class I State Prison (Rutan) or Salemba Prison thwarted two drug smuggling attempts that occurred at different times in a day.

The first smuggling was carried out by a female visitor with the initials NA (22). He tried to smuggle prohibited goods suspected of being a liquid narcotic Etomidate.

"The liquid is disguised in a 60 ml bottle of OBH Combi cough medicine and approximately 30 ml of the liquid," said Head of the Jakarta Central Class I Prison, Wahyu Trah Utomo when confirmed, Tuesday, June 16, 2026.

The officers then confiscated the liquid for further examination.

Then the second incident was successfully thwarted during the afternoon visit session at 14.40 WIB. Female officers, Dwi Handayani and Putri Wulan Suci, secured a female visitor with the initials MU (39).

Through a very strict body search, officers managed to find a package suspected of being a type of methamphetamine with a gross weight of approximately 8 grams.
