JAKARTA - China's Ministry of Industry on Wednesday January 17, issued a draft guideline for the standardization of the artificial intelligence industry (AI), as announced in a statement posted on the ministry's website.

The draft proposes the formation of more than 50 national and industrial standards for AI by 2026. In addition, it is stated that China aims to participate in the formation of more than 20 international standards for AI at the time.

This move comes at a time when China is trying to catch up with the United States in AI development after US company OpenAI shocked the world with its revolutionary chatbot, ChatGPT, at the end of 2022. Last year, Beijing was active in drafting regulations for AI, including licensing plans for ChatGPT-like products in the country.

The draft guidelines aim to "take the initial opportunity from the development of the AI industry," the ministry said. The ministry also stated that 60% of these prospects should be aimed at serving "public key technologies and application development projects".

Furthermore, the target is to have more than 1,000 companies adopting and fighting for this new standard.
