JAKARTA Spire Global, a space analytics company, has obtained a contract from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide radio occultation (RO) data.
The contract worth 9.4 million dollars (Rp145 billion) was made for an 8 month period. According to Spire's official release, the Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract for the Radio Accredited Data Buy II is part of NOAA's Commercial Weather Data Program.
As long as this contract goes on, Spire will use RO data for NOAA's operational weather forecasts, create space weather models, research the climate, and many more. RO data to be used consists of atmospheric measurements around the world.
"Through our long-term relationship with NOAA, we use space-based radio occultation measurements to meet the needs of accurate weather forecasts... and mitigate the impact of extreme weather," said Federal Spire vice president of sales, Chuck Cash.

In accordance with Cash's statement, IDIQ is not the first contract that Spire received from NOAA. In September last year, the company received a Commercial Weather Data Pilot (CWDP) contract worth US$2.8 million (Rp43 billion).
The contract for the use of Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) observation data to advance understanding of climate, weather, and ocean conditions is still ongoing and will end in October this year.
Thus, Spire is currently pocketing two contracts from NOAA. The company will continue to provide strong data on Earth's conditions using satellite and real-time radio frequency technology.
