NASA Moves Orion Spacecraft To Ohio Testing Facility Center

JAKARTA The United States (NASA) Aeronautics and Space Agency will take the Orion spacecraft to the Neil Armstrong Test Facility in Ohio. The aircraft will be retested by NASA.

Orion is a historic aircraft used in the Artemis I mission and launched in November 2022. After completing its mission, the aircraft returned to Earth and became part of the environmental testing article.

The 20-meter aircraft will be delivered from NASA's Multi-Mount Processing Facility at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Florida. Before being delivered to Ohio, technicians will lift this aircraft to crew module transport by crane.

Upon arrival at the Ohio Test Facility, engineers will examine components from Orion. They will conduct a qualification test to understand Orion's performance at the launch or flight cancellation. These test results will support the Artemis II mission.

The Orion component will be reused for the Artemis II flight. The technicians have removed the components from the Orion body, while the crew module has been reconfigured for use as testing material.

To maintain security during a trip from Florida to Ohio, the transport has been carefully prepared. Orion has been paired with a stern, back shell of the central cavity, and a side hatch at the final close before being transported.

The Artemis I mission has officially ended after Orion landed with the help of a parachute in the Pacific Ocean. The plane crashed into the water in December 2022 and was transported ashore with the help of a Navy diver.

While on the KSC, technicians have examined Orion, taken data recorded on the plane, removed loads from the plane, and much more. All of these actions were taken to support the qualification test.
