Google's Four Focuses On The Settlement Of Antitrust Cases On The Play Store

JAKARTA After the settlement of the Play Store antitrust case with the attorney general from a number of US states was published, Google gave an official response.

In the release, Google's Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy Wilson White said that his party was disappointed with the outcome of the court's decision. The reason is, Google is found guilty of limiting the competition of application developers.

According to White, thePlay Store has never prevented its developers from doing business. On the other hand, Google's digital store is the right place for app developers to compete with each other.

Although Google objected to the court's decision, White said that his company would continue to comply with the settlement of the case. What's more, the court's decision is made to increase their digital store.

This settlement is based on Android options and flexibility, maintaining strong security protection, and maintaining Google's ability to compete with other OS creators, White said.

Based on the results of the case settlement, White said that his company will focus on four things. First, they will waive the choice of app stores to the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

"We recently implemented a feature on Android 14 that will make third-party app stores better for users and allow third-party app stores to update the app more easily," White explained.

Next, Google will simplify the sideload process or download apps from the developer's website. Given that sideload can pose a dangerous risk, Google will always alert users before downloading the app.

The next solution that Google will implement is the use of a third-party billing system for developers. After this policy is implemented in the US, all application users can choose a payment system freely.

Finally, Google will give developers the freedom to make attractive offers to users outside of the app. They can also provide lower cost options through other digital app stores and developer websites.
