Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi revealed that 215 regions have been accompanied by the Directorate General of Aptika Kominfo in the Smart City Movement Program (Smart City) and Smart Province (Smart Province) since 2017.
"This year, after going through the assessment, there are 50 cities and regencies and 2 selected provinces and 17 cities and regencies that have proposed a Business Matchmaking Proposal for the facilitation of Smart City infrastructure development," Budi said in his official broadcast on Thursday, December 7.
In 2024, Budi admitted that the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has coordinated with 10 local governments that will receive assistance.
"Thus, from 2017 to 2024, there will be a total of 251 districts and cities that will receive assistance from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics," explained Budi.
According to him, the trend of smart city development has increased significantly from year to year. In 2023, for example, there are already 141 cities around the world that have started developing smart cities. In fact, some of them such as Zurich, Singapore, Seoul have become smart cities.
The Minister of Communication and Information stated that the presence of technology such as artificial intelligence, the internet of things (IoT), big data analytics, and cloud computing has the opportunity to help improve the quality of life.
