YouTube made a new policy regarding limiting recommendation frequencies with sensitive topics for teenagers. This policy has been in effect since last November 2.

This limit was launched after YouTube partnered with the Youth and Family Advisory Committee which focuses on development, media, and digital learning for children.

Before the restrictions rolled out, YouTube was given a lot of input by the committee regarding the adverse effects of recurringly accessed sensitive content. Their serious concern is mental health.

The high content frequency related to standards and unhealthy behavior can convey messages that cause problems and those messages can affect the way some teenagers view themselves, said Member of the Youth and Family Advisory Committee, banyak Briscoe-Smith in an official release.

The first country to get this limit is the United States. Now, teenagers there will not get a video recommendation that can make them dissatisfied with their own appearance.

"This category includes content comparing physical features and idealizing several types compared to others, idealizing certain fitness or weight levels, or displaying social aggression in the form of contactless fights and intimidation," explained YouTube Product Management Director of Children and Youth, James Beser.

Another improvement that YouTube adds is contact with direct crisis service partners. According to Beser's explanation, users who are looking for problems with eating and suicide will get a display of support with a hotline that can be contacted.

Although this limit has just been implemented in America, YouTube will add more countries next year. They are committed to continuing to remove bad content and prevent teens from seeing inappropriate videos.
