JAKARTA - News that Instagram is developing Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based features has leaked. According to a report by TechCrunch, this new feature called AI friend is created for communication.

This finding is supported by screenshots shared by Application Researcher Alessandro Paluzzi. The screenshot shows that the AI friend is designed to answer questions.

Not only that, AI friend can also be used to exchange ideas. Simply put, this chatbot was created to find friends to chat with and discuss light to complex issues.

Before using the AI friend, users will be asked to select the gender and age of the chatbot. Users can also choose the ethnicity and personality of this chatbot to support the conversation.

Some of the personalities that can be chosen for this chatbot are quiet, enthusiastic, creative, intelligent, pragmatic, and empowering. The choices are quite diverse and interesting.

Instagram also extends the settings down to the interests and traits of the chatbot in question. Some of the interest options that will be displayed are animals, career, education, entertainment, music, and many more.

After determining gender, personality and interests, users can determine the avatar and name of this AI friend. When ready, users can chat directly by clicking the start talking to AI button.

This new feature could be a new breakthrough for Instagram in expanding its user reach. Unfortunately, Instagram was reluctant to comment when asked about the development of its features.

Considering this feature hasn't been released yet, Instagram may still want to develop this feature further. However, there is a possibility that this feature will be canceled before it is announced to the public.
