JAKARTA - A number of tech companies, including TikTok, Snapchat, and AI Stabilities, have signed joint statements committed to working together to counter the use of child abuse images generated by artificial intelligence.

Britain announced this joint statement - which also lists the governments of the United States, Germany and Australia as one of 27 signatories - at an event held on Monday, October 30 ahead of a global meeting held by the UK on the safety of artificial intelligence this week.

"This statement outlines our determination to maintain dialogue and technical innovation in dealing with child sexual abuse in the era of artificial intelligence," the statement said.

"We are committed to working together to ensure that we use artificial intelligence responsible for overcoming the threat of child sexual harassment and are committed to continuing to work collaboratively so that the risks posed by artificial intelligence in dealing with child sexual abuse are not resolved," the statement said.

The UK refers to data from the Internet Watch Foundation showing that in one of the dark web forums, users have shared nearly 3,000 images of child abuse material produced by artificial intelligence.

"It is very important for us to set an example and remove the misuse of this technology before having the opportunity to really take root," said plusy Hargreaves, Internet Watch Foundation CEO.
