JAKARTA Google will not improve various aspects such as features and security in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. They also plan to provide spare parts or components of the Pixel series for seven years.

Quoting from The Verge, Google Product Management Director Soniya Jobanputra said that the provision of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro components is one of their commitments.

With the provision of components for seven years, they hope the Pixel 8 series can last longer than expected or at least stay alive for those seven years.

This commitment is certainly a good step considering that Google is known to have difficulty preparing spare components, including on their Pixel Watch devices. However, Google did not explain whether the components they provided were for their users.

California itself is currently making device repair rights a law. In the law, each company must offer reserve components for at least seven years after the device is released.

This law is expected to take effect in July next year. Looking at this rule, Google is most likely to take a safe step by providing backups first, especially the bill includes devices sold since 2021.

Looking at this California Bill, Google may provide reserve components for Pixel Watch in the future. This certainly benefits Google smartwatch users because so far the company only provides a warranty.
