JAKARTA - A number of researchers from the Center for Digital Hate Management (CCDH) explained that dangerous content is trending among teenage users of TikTok. This harmful content promotes the use of steroid drugs.

CCDH notes that a hashtag for steroid drugs has garnered more than 580 million views among US TikTok users in a period of three years. Reporting from Techcrunch, this video managed to reach men aged 18 to 24 years.

Looking at this trend, CCDH CEO Imran Ahmed said that content is not only dangerous for women, but also for men. Moreover, this trend wraps the idea of masculinity to misogini.

CCDH confirms that steroids are not drugs to increase one's productivity. This term is considered misleading. In fact, steroids can increase the risk of heart attacks, infertility, and psychosis.

Meanwhile, in the data CCDH collects, 35 influencers TikTok include links to illegal steroid sales sites. Even one influencer has 1.8 million followers. This figure could provide a huge advantage for steroid sellers.

Seeing this phenomenon, CCDH said that TikTok had failed to regulate the paltfrom according to the standards and rules they made. Ahmed also reminded TikTok to pay more attention to this problem, especially the target is teenagers.

"(TikTok) must be much more transparent about how many children and adolescents are regularly affected by this content through the platform algorithm," said Ahmed.
