Kaspersky: Kids' Summer Trends for 2023

JAKARTA - A new Kaspersky Safe Kids study reveals that 61 percent of children have received their first digital device between the ages of 8 and 12, for playing, making friends, watching, and so on.

To that end, Kaspersky examined kids' online inquiries to understand what caught their attention this summer (June - August) 2023.

During this period, there were three most popular applications on Android, including YouTube (30%), TikTok (17%) and WhatsApp (15%). Instagram takes fourth place (9%).

Meanwhile, for YouTube, the content most frequently searched for by children is channels and vloggers who record entertainment, challenge or lifestyle videos (21%). The 'other' classification got 21%, and gaming bloggers came in 3rd place with 15% of requests.

Skibidi Toilet is one of the biggest summer trends. This is a cartoon series, hosted on YouTube Shorts, created by influencer Georgia DaFuq!?Boom!. Scibidi Toilet makes up almost 9% in the TOP-1000 YouTube search queries.

As for YouTube vloggers and influencers, the leaders this summer are Triple Charm, shfa, ViktoriaSarina, Fede Vigevani, Michou, Space Family, Fala Sério, A4, whose content is mostly lifestyle videos, challenges, unpackage videos and beauty.

On the topic of game content, Lacey's Flash Games received the largest number of search requests this summer. Like Skibidi Toilet, Lacey’s Games evolved into a web horror based on Lacey – a character who appears, for example, in the flash game “Lacey’s Wardrobe” the main intrigue here is the existence of this game in life.

In the 'movies, cartoons and TV shows' category, cartoons hold the leading position – with almost 50% of queries. TV shows received 26 percent of requests, which is a significant win over anime which got 16 percent of searches.

Music interests still revolve around K-pop, almost 19% of search queries are related to South Korean bands and BlackPink is the leader.
