JAKARTA - Kaspersky, a global cyber security company that has been around since 1997 announced the launch of Kaspersky Who Calls, an application that enables users to fight spam and mobile fraud, in the Indonesian market.
According to the company, this app can help smartphone owners detect callers from unknown numbers, banks, delivery services, or other entities, whether they are from legitimate sources or not.
The launch of Kaspersky Who Calls in Indonesia is based on the growing popularity of phone spam in Indonesia over the last two years. Kaspersky data states that at least 49.95 percent of users have encountered phone spam from December 2022 - January 2023.
“Indonesia continues to be a country that shows significant growth in technology and information adoption as marked by an increase in the number of internet and smartphone users in recent years. Likewise, online fraud via spam phone calls continues to be the tactic of choice by cybercriminals in the country," said Adrian Hia Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Kaspersky in a statement.
Kaspersky Who Calls features a machine learning algorithm that helps the application identify potential spammers and scammers. Apart from that, users can also add suspicious numbers themselves to the spammer database.
To identify unknown calls, the application is activated without requiring sensitive information such as the user's phone number. Also, to use Kaspersky Who Call, users do not need to register phone numbers, or other sensitive data.
