JAKARTA - Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg recently announced several new features coming to Messenger for end-to-end encrypted chats.

In the announcement, some of these features are Chat themes, emoji and special chat reactions, group profile photos, link previews, and active status.

  • Chat themes: The addition of chat themes allows users to personalize and enhance conversations in end-to-end encrypted chats. You can now set themes, including static colors and gradient themes, for end-to-end encrypted chats.
  • Emoji and custom chat reactions: Now, you can view a full menu of emoji reactions and customize the quick reaction tray in end-to-end encrypted chats.
  • Group profile photo: Select a group profile photo for various chats with friends or coworkers.
  • Link preview: With the link preview redesign, you can see where a link will lead, before clicking on it.
  • Active Status: It lets people see when you're active, so they know when to call. However, you can still choose to turn this feature off.

Apart from these five features, Meta also launched a new capability for Android users, where they can now read or reply to messages via the new notification bubble.

"We're also starting to gradually expand our default end-to-end encryption test for Messenger. We know people want space to connect and they want to know that conversations are private, safe, and secure," wrote Meta.

Over the next few months, more people will be able to see this feature in their Messenger. Meta also notes that this feature won't negatively change the app. This update is meant to provide people with a fast, reliable, and rich experience on Messenger.
