JAKARTA - Meta plans to stop the live shopping feature or Live Shopping on Facebook starting October 1, 2022.

Live shopping was first launched two years ago. This feature was created to give sellers an interactive way to sell items, connect with viewers, and potentially get new customers.

"Starting October 1, 2022, you will no longer be able to host new or scheduled Live Shopping events on Facebook," the company wrote in a blog.

The company notes that you can still use Facebook Live to broadcast regular live broadcasts, but you won't be able to create product playlists or tag products in your Facebook Live videos.

Instead, Meta says, the company will focus on its short video feature, Reels.

"As consumer viewing behavior shifts to short-form video, we're shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram, Meta's short-form video product."

Meta suggests for business people to start experimenting with Reels, in order to reach more people or customers.

"If you want to reach and engage people through video, try experimenting with Reels ads on Facebook and Instagram. You can also tag products on Reels on Instagram to allow for deeper discovery and consideration," he says.

While the love shopping feature on Facebook will disappear in October, there's nothing wrong with setting up a backup platform for it, Instagram for example.
