JAKARTA - Volkswagen Group of America has partnered with Nevada startup Redwood Materials to recycle batteries from VW and Audi electric vehicles in the United States. This cooperation was signed on Tuesday, July 12.

VW is the latest automaker to partner with Redwood, which has forged similar alliances with Toyota Motor Corp, Ford Motor Co, and Geely Automobile's Volvo Cars.

VW Group of America Chief Executive Scott Keogh announced a recycling partnership with Redwood that will help them accelerate EV adoption in America.

VW has also announced that it targets 55% of its vehicle sales in the US to be fully electric by 2030.

Redwood also has recycling deals with battery makers Panasonic Corp in Nevada and Envision AESC in Tennessee, as well as Amazon. Ford and Amazon have been known as investors in Redwood.

Started by Tesla co-founder JB Straubel, Redwood says his mission is to create a domestic closed-loop battery supply chain, ultimately reducing dependence on mining raw materials.

As reported by Reuters, Redwood will work with more than 1,000 VW and Audi dealerships in the United States to recover and recycle battery packs at the Redwood facility in Nevada, including remaking battery electrode components from materials such as cobalt, nickel, lithium, and copper.

This collaboration further confirms that VW's EV products will be known as environmentally friendly products. This is a very good promotion for their vehicle sales in the US. So far, many car manufacturers continue to campaign for their products to be associated with environmentally friendly products.
