T-Mobile Launches Voice Over 5G That Enables Seamless Phone Calls

JAKARTA - German telecommunications company, T-Mobile announced on Friday, June 3, that it is launching a commercial service Voice Over 5G (VoNR or Voice Over New Radio).

VoNR, which allows you to make or receive calls using the 5G network, is now available to customers in limited areas of Portland, Ore, and Salt Lake City, and plans to expand to more areas in the US this year.

According to the announcement, T-Mobile customers using the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G smartphone can already take advantage of VoNR in certain areas.

"Not only do we have the leading 5G network in the country. T-Mobile is setting the pace for providers around the world as we push the industry forward - now starting to roll out other critical services through 5G," said Neville Ray, President of Technology at T-Mobile.

Standalone 5G eliminates the need for a 4G LTE network and a 4G core, so 5G can reach its true potential. In other words, this is "pure 5G".

According to T-Mobile, this technology allows you to receive voice calls from your phone more seamlessly and in more real-time. Subscribers connected to VoNR will see slightly faster call setup times, meaning less delay between the time they call the number and when the phone starts ringing.

T-Mobile became the first in the world to ship it nationally nearly two years ago. Based on what all of T-Mobile's 5G partners, namely Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung, have said, they are very excited about 5G VoNR.

Currently, T-Mobile covers 225 million people across the country with its 5G service. It is expected to increase to 260 million by 2022, and 300 million by 2023.
