JAKARTA - iPhone users can now repair their own devices at much cheaper prices, as Apple has just launched a Self Service Repair Shop.

The program, which was originally introduced late last year, allows third-generation iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and SE users to make their own repairs in their homes with tools that Apple provides for rent.

Apple said the United States (US) will be the first to launch it, and Europe plans to be the next country. It is not known for sure whether this Self Service Repair Shop will also be present in other countries.

Customers can access the Self Service Repair Shop through the official website, where they will have access to more than 200 individual parts and equipment. At first, the new store only included tools for the third-generation iPhone 12‌, iPhone 13‌ and iPhone SE‌ lineup.

However, Apple plans to expand the store with tools, manuals, and parts for Macs with Apple silicon chips later this year.

"To perform a repair, customers must first review the repair manual for their product and the specific repair on Apple's support website. After that, they will be able to order the necessary parts and tools from a Self-Service Repair Store and initiate repairs," Apple said. .

"All tools and parts offered in the store undergo extensive testing to ensure the highest quality, safety and reliability."

Launching Digital Trends, Thursday, April 28, the technology giant from Cupertino, USA will charge customers 49 US dollars equivalent to Rp.708 thousand for one time access to equipment rental. While Apple also offers access to parts and tools purchases for those who prefer permanent access.

Finally, the company also offers purchases for certain parts if they are returned for recycling. Like many other technology companies, Apple prides itself on using a large number of recycled parts in its products.
