Parag Agrawal Calls Twitter Now In The Dark Ages, Its Future Is Uncertain

JAKARTA - Twitter Inc's current CEO, Parag Agrawal told employees on Monday, April 25 that the future of the social media company was uncertain after a successful deal to buy the social media platform with world conglomerate Elon Musk was concluded. Agrawal stated this during a town hall meeting with all Twitter employees.

Elon Musk himself is scheduled to join Twitter staff and employees in a Q&A session at the company the following day.

When Agrawal listened to staff questions about Musk's plans for the company, possible layoffs and the board's rationale for the deal, he didn't want too many of those questions. Instead he stated that the question should be asked to Musk directly.

Musk said he believes Twitter should be a platform for free speech. Employees asked Agrawal if former US President Donald Trump, who was permanently suspended from Twitter last year, would be allowed to return after Musk took over. This is also the question of millions of Twitter users in the world.

"Once the deal is closed, we don't know which way the platform will go," Agrawal said, referring to a question about Trump. "I believe when we have the opportunity to speak to Elon, those are the questions we should answer with him."

Agrawal also told employees there were no layoff plans. However, he could not give any guarantees about his own fate, considering that Agrawal is the CEO who is considered to have made Twitter shares continue to decline after he took over from Jack Dorsey as CEO of Twitter.

Bret Taylor, chairman of Twitter's board of directors, is trying to reassure employees that the agreement with Musk prioritizes "continuation of operations" until the deal closes.

"I think we feel very comfortable that (the deal) gives this team the ability to continue to make the company successful between signing and closing the deal," Taylor said.
