Suspension Of Detention Rejected, South Korean President Yoon Thinks About Appealing To The Supreme Court

JAKARTA - The court in Seoul rejected a request for a suspension of detention and search of the presidential residence proposed by the President of South Korea (South Korea), Yoon Suk Yeol

The decision was released days after Yoon's legal team objected to suspending the enactment of a warrant they deem illegal.

"We will consider whether to appeal to the Supreme Court (MA)," Yoon's lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, said Sunday, January 5, quoted by Antara via Yonhap.

"This rejection does not mean that the warrant is legally valid," he added.

The same court previously approved Yoon's detention warrant for questioning regarding his role in a failed military emergency attempt on December 3.

The court also issued a warrant to search the presidential residence complex in central Seoul.

The Corruption Investigation Agency for High-ranking Officials handling the military emergency case Yoon tried to execute the warrant on Friday January 3.

However, the anti-corruption agency then pulled its officers from the location after facing a deadlock for six hours because the Presidential Security Forces blocked entry access.

Yoon's legal team argues that the warrant is legally flawed, claiming that the judge has arbitrarily decided by declaring a criminal law prohibiting the execution of a search warrant or arrest in a military area and limited security does not apply to Yoon's case.
