JAKARTA - Before Amazon's Alexa was known as the voice assistant of the giant e-commerce, it was actually the name of a ranking company's website. Alexa.com, founded in 1996 and became famous some time ago for analyzing web traffic and listing the most popular websites around the world.

The service also offers a paid subscription for those who want detailed SEO analytics and insights. Now, Amazon has announced that it will be discontinuing Alexa.com on May 1, 2022, just a month after celebrating its 26th anniversary.

In its announcement as quoted by Engadget, the company stated:

"Twenty-five years ago, we founded Alexa Internet. After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we've made the difficult decision to discontinue Alexa.com on May 1, 2022. Thank you for making us a resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and more."

While Amazon doesn't explicitly say why it's shutting down the service, Alexa Internet traffic has been declining over the past few decades based on data from SEMrush, as noted by Bleeping Computer.

In fact, it's been a long time since anyone has worried about their Alexa ranking anymore, so Amazon may have decided it's time to say goodbye to the site.

The e-commerce giant has also stopped accepting new subscriptions to Alexa's paid subscriptions, but current customers will be able to access their accounts until May 1, 2022. They will lose access after that date, but they will be able to export their accounts as well as data from various services if desired.
