JAKARTA - The Indonesian badminton team is undergoing a psychological recovery following the failure in the Sudirman Cup event which was held at Energia Areena, Vantaa, Finland from September 26 to October 3, 2021.

According to the Indonesian badminton team psychologist Endro Wibowo, after the failure, he and his team are currently trying to re-boost the players' enthusiasm, motivation, and fighting power.

“The current condition of the team is in recovery while evaluating the failure that occurred yesterday in the Sudirman Cup. This is done so that the team is more mature and more prepared for the Thomas and Uber Cup contests next week," said Endro in an official statement from The Central Board of the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI), as reported by Antara, Monday, October 4.

In Endro's eyes, from the psychological aspect, the cause of the defeat of the Garuda squad in the knockout round against the Malaysian team was negligence, so that the players lost their concentration and focus on implementing their respective playing strategies.

"The players actually tried hard to give their best in the match, but there was a bit of negligence, such as losing focus on the field. This can be used by the opponent, resulting in defeat," said Endro.

Failing to win the Sudirman Cup, the Indonesian team will then continue their struggle in the Thomas-Uber Cup which will be held on October 9-17, 2021 at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark.

"We will restore the confidence of the players because basically, they are great players and mainstay of Indonesia," said Endro.

"In addition, players must increase their focus on the field, point by point, and must not feel that they are already ahead even though they are already far ahead. Stay focused until the game is over," he added.

Furthermore, he revealed that there are many ways to revive the motivation and fighting spirit of the Indonesian team, one of them is by inviting them to chat.

"This chat is done to assess the strengths of the players and find reasons why they deserve to be in this team, so that their confidence comes back," explained Endro.

“To focus on players, we collaborate with coaches to remind them when they are playing. For doubles players, we ask that both players who are fighting on the field remind each other of their partners," added Endro.

The Indonesian team stopped in the Sudirman Cup quarter-finals after losing 2-3 to Malaysia.

While China came out as champion after beating Japan 3-1 in the final match which was held on Sunday night Indonesian Western Time (WIB).
