JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has completed the construction of the Sekip Ujung Flyover in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province.

The physical work of this flyover has been completed by the South Sumatra National Road Implementation Center (BBPJN) of the Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of PU with contractors PT Waskita Karya and PT Ricky Kencana (KSO). The total cost reached around IDR 168.1 billion.

After completion, this flyover has been operational and has provided benefits in reducing congestion due to traffic confluence from Basuki Rahmad Street–R. Sukamto Street and Amphibi Street–Angkatan 66 Street in Palembang City.

Minister of PU, Dody Hanggodo, said that the development of connectivity infrastructure is needed so that the mobility of goods, services, and people is more efficient.

With increasingly smooth connectivity, it is hoped that it can increase regional economic growth. Thus, it will help accelerate development in the region.

"The construction of the Sekip Ujung Flyover will facilitate traffic connectivity and accessibility. In addition, it also provides an alternative for residents to increase economic productivity," said Dody in his written statement, Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

The Sekip Ujung Flyover was built from 2022 to 2024 with a length of 660 meters (m). Consisting of 190 m (bridge), 160 meters (abutment on the side of Basuki Rahmad Street), and 310 meters (abutment on the side of R. Sukamto Street).

Land acquisition was also carried out by the South Sumatra Provincial Government and the Palembang City Government.

The construction of this road infrastructure uses Foam Mortar Technology so that it can reduce around 50 percent of the implementation time compared to landfills.

To increase the comfort of road users, this flyover is also equipped with LED lighting with a pole distance of every 40 m from the beginning of the abutment to the end of the abutment.

The flyover display is also decorated with beautification of building ornaments by prioritizing local art and culture so that it can beautify the face of Palembang City, including the landscape in the area under the flyover.

"The ornaments for beautification are in the form of songket panels which are original woven fabrics from South Sumatra."

"This songket fabric will certainly add to the attraction and show the cooperation between the South Sumatra Provincial Government, the Palembang City Government, and the central government," he added.
