Mahesa UI Vocational Student Wins Gold And Silver Medal In Papua PON Roller Skate

DEPOK - Barijani Mahesa Putra, a student of the Public Relations (Humas) Vocational Education Program at the University of Indonesia, won gold and silver medals in the rollerblading sport at the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Jayapura City, Papua.

"Training hard and trying to show the best is my obligation as an athlete. To be successful in bringing home the medal is a matter of pride and achievement for which I am very grateful," said Mahesa, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 30.

Mahesa is a roller skate athlete who represents DKI Jakarta at this PON. Mahes won the gold medal in the men's 500M+D Sprint event on Wednesday, September 29, at the Klemen Tinal Roller Sport Arena, Jayapura City, Papua, with a record time of 44,000 seconds.

Previously, on Tuesday, September 28, Mahesa won a silver medal in the men's 500 meters ITT (Individual Time Trial) with a record time of 41.859 seconds. Mahesa will still compete for the other three numbers in PON Papua. To prepare for this PON, Mahesa has entered the training center from April 2021 to September 2021.

Mahesa said that being an athlete who can represent the province in a national event like this is a great pride, so he always strives to be the best.

According to him, the main challenge is when he has to go through the entire process of training and preparation that goes hand in hand with his obligations as a student of the 3rd semester UI Vocational Public Relations Study Program.

"Well, of course it is a big challenge to be able to undergo training along with a busy schedule with lectures, especially at the UI Vocational School, the schedule for practicum classes is very large because the curriculum contains 70 percent of practice, so you have to be good at dividing your time and of course keeping yourself healthy. ," said Mahesa.

Mahesa explained that the learning system that is currently running online is very helpful for managing time.

"So at UI during the pandemic, we adhere to the Distance Learning (PJJ) system. There are PJJs that are real time (synchronous) and also self-paced (asynchronous) learning through UI's E learning Management System (EMAS). The combination made it possible for me manage time more optimally so that obligations as athletes and students can go hand in hand," he said.

The Director of the UI Vocational Education Program, Prof. Sigit Pranowo Hadiwardoyo said Vocational UI was certainly very proud of Mahesa's achievements and appreciated that Mahesa continued to carry out his obligations as a student well.

"In principle, we support every positive activity from students. Our students have varied talents ranging from achievements in academics, entrepreneurship, art, and sports. The field of science at UI Vocational which consists of health, social and administration fields allows students to collaborate cross-disciplinary and more creative," said Sigit.
