JAKARTA - East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa thanked lifter Eko Yuli Irawan for presenting medals in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Congratulations for success and thank you for your hard work and the presentation of the Olympic silver medal, during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Khofifah in Surabaya, Monday, as reported by Antara.
Eko Yuli Irawan donated a silver medal for the Red and White team in the men's 61 kg weightlifting sport at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Sunday, July 25.
Even though he was born in Lampung, Eko Yuli is listed as an East Java athlete, in fact, he has also defended and contributed a gold medal at the 2016 PON XIX in West Java.
"Thank you also to the trainers at the East Java Regional Training Center. Hopefully, other teams will follow suit and get medals at the Tokyo Olympics," said Khofifah.

"Alhamdulillah, the male lifter from East Java, Eko Yuli Irawan, presented a silver medal in the men's 61 kg class at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics," wrote the former Minister of Social Affairs.
Eko Yuli Irawan actually had a mission to win an Olympic gold medal, but his mission failed to materialize after losing competition with Chinese lifter Li Fabin.
Eko Yuli was only able to finish in second place in the men's 61kg class with a total lift of 302kg, consisting of a 137kg snatch and 165kg clean and jerk.
Meanwhile, Li Fabin won the gold medal with a total of 313kg (snatch 141kg and clean and jerk 172kg).
Kazakhstan lifter Son Igor is entitled to a bronze medal with a total lift of 294kg (131kg snatch and 163kg clean and jerk).
This achievement has made Indonesia now collect two medals from the same sport. The day before, lifter Windy Cantika won a bronze medal in the women's 49 kg class.
