JAKARTA - West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan was surprised and concerned about the findings of data related to the involvement of state civil servants (ASN) in the West Java Provincial Government environment in online gambling (judol) activities with transactions of up to Rp800 million for one year.

Data disclosed by the Financial Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center (PPATK), said Erwan, triggered deep concern from the West Java Provincial Government, considering the total value of illegal transactions involving state officials at the provincial and district/city levels has now reached tens of billions of rupiah every year and continues to creep up.

"I received complete data based on name and address. There are even ASN whose transaction value reaches hundreds of millions of rupiah to around Rp800 million in a year. This is certainly very worrying," said Erwan in his statement in Bandung, Tuesday, July 7, as reported by ANTARA.

Erwan explained, with the largest population in Indonesia reaching around 51 million people, West Java is now plagued by crucial social issues.

Online gambling and online lending (pinjol) practices, he said, are no longer just targeting low-income people, but have massively penetrated the ranks of officials, members of the TNI, Polri, to ASN.

Although they have detailed data on names and addresses (by name by address), Erwan emphasized that the West Java Provincial Government chose to keep the identities of the ASN secret.

The steps to enforce discipline will be commanded by the Inspectorate through a gradual internal training mechanism to provide a deterrent effect.

"We will ask for gradual coaching, calling the concerned ASN, heads of regional units, to heads of regions to strengthen supervision. Don't let cases like this continue to increase every year," said Erwan.

The West Java Provincial Government also asked for intervention and input from the Indonesian Ombudsman to correct other public service scandals, including evaluating the implementation of the New Student Admission Selection (SPMB) so that patterns of maladministration do not continue to recur in the coming years.

Responding to this phenomenon, Member of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Maneger Nasution, assessed that the involvement of state apparatus in the vicious circle of gambling and online loans has tarnished the public ethics aspect and has the potential to trigger maladministration in public services.

"This is not only a legal issue, but also an ethical issue. The state apparatus should be an example, so that this issue is also the concern of the Ombudsman," said Maneger.

He emphasized the readiness of the West Java representative Ombudsman to strengthen oversight and governance.
