Chido Obi Confirmed Absen Bela Manchester United Against Real Sociedad In The Europa League

JAKARTA - Chido forward Obi will miss Manchester United's match against Real Sociedad on Friday, March 7, 2025, as he is not eligible to play in the Europa League.

The 17-year-old made an impressive appearance after entering as a substitute when Manchester United lost to Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

It was his third appearance in the senior team after moving from Arsenal in October 2024.

His performance against Fulham sparked questions to Manager Ruben Amorim about whether he would soon appear as a starting player to replace the striker who is under pressure, Rasmus Hojlund, who has not scored since December 2024.

However, Chido Obi will not be able to face Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Europa League last 16 in Anoeta because he is not eligible to play in the tournament.

Manchester United added players recruited in January 2025, Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven, to the Europa League squad ahead of the knockout stages.

Chido Obi was ignored because he was not considered a first-team player at the time.

Meanwhile, a number of injuries suffered by senior players, including Amad Diallo and Kobbie Mainoo, made Chido Obi quickly enter the Amorism squad.

The problem is, Chido Obi is not eligible to be included in the B list - which is usually intended for young players - because according to UEFA rules, players must have been at the club for at least two years.
