Marc Marquez Breaks Casey Stoner's Record For 18 Years

JAKARTA - Casey Stoner's record was finally successfully matched at the 2025 Thailand MotoGP at Chang International Circuit, Buriram, last weekend.

Marc Marquez equaled Stoner's statistics which lasted 18 years.

He became the first Ducati manufacturer to win his debut Grand Prix since Stoner made it in 2007.

Since then, Ducati's other debutants have failed. Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo did not enjoy their tenure, while Francesco Bagnaia did not win his first race as Ducati manufacturers.

Thailand's 2025 MotoGP is also Marquez's first season opener since 2014.

Amazingly, it's been 93 Grand Prix races since he last led the championship. That figure seems to continue to follow suit.

Marquez addressed concerns about a tire pressure penalty, which forced him to step down from the leading position behind his brother, Alex Marquez, to win in Buriram.

He started from the leading position at the first weekend which attracted attention by wearing red.

The record ended a record set by Stoner, who left Honda for Ducati in the 2007 season.

At that time, Stoner won the Qatar MotoGP as the season opener. He continued to claim three of the first four Grand Prix.

Stoner unexpectedly won his MotoGP title in 2007, his first season with Ducati.

At that time, the Italian factory project was in a very different place from now on.

Stoner was not seeded at the time, while Marquez was greatly seeded for the 2025 title.

He moved from Gresini, the Ducati Satellite team that gave him access to the one-year-old Desmodedici.

Now, he has the same material as Pecco Bagnaia (while champion Jorge Martin is absent due to injury and has to adapt to Aprilia).

Marquez's first win in 2025 could be the first of many other wins.
