Carlo Ancelotti Becomes Real Madrid's Most Successful Manager

Carlo Ancelotti became the most accomplished coach in Real Madrid history. He has just led his troops to win the 2024 Intercontinental Cup on Thursday, December 19, 2024, early in the morning WIB, after a 3-0 win over Pachuca in the final.

Now, a total of 15 trophies have been won by Ancelotti with Los Blancos.

In two terms on duty at Real Madrid-- between 2013 and 2015 and starting again in 2021--Ancelotti has lifted three Champions League trophies, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey, two Spanish Supercopas, three UEFA Super Cups, two Club World Cups, and now the Intercontinental Cup.

The previous record was held by the legendary Real Madrid coach, Miguel Munoz, who spent 14 years serving between 1960 and 1974. He won two European Cups, nine league titles, two Copa del Rey, and one Intercontinental Cup.

"I'm very happy. It's a success. We took control little by little and ended the game well."

Ancelotti equaled Munoz's record in August 2024 when Madrid won the European Super Cup beating Atalanta 2-0.

Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior, who scored in the 2024 Intercontinental Cup, together with Mbappe and Rodrygo, praised Ancelotti for the club's success. Likewise Federico Valverde.

"Congratulations to the coach, he deserves it. He gave us freedom, he was perfect for us," said Vinicius Jr.

"He deserves it. He has won everything. He guides us," Federico Valverde told Telecinco after the game.

Ancelotti will next have the opportunity to add to his trophy collection in January 2025 when Madrid take part in the Spanish Super Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

They will face Mallorca in the semifinals on January 9, 2025 before a possible final against Barcelona or Athletic Bilbao three days later.

Ancelotti first joined Real Madrid in June 2013. At that time, he won the Champions League in his first season, before being sacked in May 2015 after a second, less successful season.

He surprisingly returned to the Santiago Bernabeu in June 2021. Since then, he has won two La Liga titles and the Champions League in 2022 and 2024.

The veteran Italian coach holds a series of records after nearly 30 years of his career as a coach.

He is the only coach to ever win a league title in Europe's top five leagues. The details, in Spain with Real Madrid, in Italy with AC Milan, in Germany with Bayern Munich, in England with Chelsea, and in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti is also the only manager to have won five Champions Leagues, having won the tournament twice as AC Milan coach in 2003 and 2007.
