Barcelona Officially Becomes The MotoGP Closing Grand Prix 2024

JAKARTA The MotoGP officially announced that the final race to end the 2024 competition season will take place at the Catalunya Circuit, Barcelona, Spain.

The race there was a substitute for the Valencia Grand Prix which had to be canceled due to severe damage to a number of Ricardo Tormo Circuit facilities and access to the area due to flash floods arising from Hurricane Dana.

"MotoGP can now confirm that the closing of the 2024 season will be held at Barcelona," MotoGP wrote in their official website.

Even though it canceled the Valencia series, MotoGP still did not change the race schedule. The race will still be held on November 15-17, 2024 according to the original schedule.

The closing race of the season will be held with the title "Race for Valencia". This was done as a form of respect for more than 200 casualties due to the disaster.

"The location and circuit are also the most efficient options, providing almost unobstructed alternatives for personnel and logistics," wrote MotoGP regarding the reasons for appointing Barcelona.

The MotoGP race in Barcelona will attract attention because it determines the world title contested by Jorge Martin and defending champion Francesco Bagnaia.

Currently Martin is still leading the top of the drivers' standings with a collection of 485 points. He is 24 points ahead of his Italian rival.

With that gap of points, Martin only needs to win the Sprint Race to ensure the title. If that happens, Bagnaia will be two points behind with his best finish in the second Sprint Race and win the main race.

The competition between Martin and Bagnaia earlier also took place last season. At that time, Bagnaia came out as the champion and the Spaniard had to settle for being runner-up.
