Talking About The Opportunities For Maarten Paes To Appear Against Bahrain, Shin Tae-yong: Possibility Of 70 Percent

Maarten Paes has not been confirmed to be able to play against Bahrain (VOI/Ferry Tri Adi Sasono).

JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team, Shin Tae-yong, revealed the current condition of Maarten Paes ahead of the match against Bahrain. The coach said the goalkeeper could not be fully confirmed to appear.

The Indonesian national team will face Bahrain in the continuation of Group C of the Third Round of the 2026 World Cup Qualification at the Bahrain National Stadium, Thursday, October 10, 2024.

Players have gathered and been in training camps in Bahrain since October 6, 2024. On Tuesday, October 8, it was Maarten Paes' turn to join after a long journey from his club, FC Dallas, in the United States.

Unfortunately, Maarten Paes' condition until before the exercise was not 100 percent fit. You see, the 26-year-old goalkeeper suffered an wrist injury with his club.

The Indonesian national team also continues to communicate with the FC Dallas team doctor regarding the recovery of the goalkeeper.

However, it was still decided to fly Paes to Bahrain and his recovery is now being handled by the Garuda Squad doctor.

After further examination by the Indonesian national team doctor upon arrival in Bahrain, Shin Tae-yong revealed that Paes' condition was still not 100 percent.

This situation makes the coach unable to confirm whether Paes can be taken down or not.

"It is possible that 70 percent (of the opportunity) of him (Maarten Paes) can play," said Shin Tae-yong in his statement quoted Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

Shin Tae-yong, staff of the Indonesian national team, doctors, and physiotherapists are still monitoring Maarten Paes' condition.

The South Korean coach did not want to be careless. He will see Paes' development until tomorrow before the match.

"We will see first ( Paes's condition) today and tomorrow. After that, a decision will be made," said Shin Tae-yong.

Previously, when he had just arrived at Bahrain airport, Paes' right wrist was seen still wrapped in protective equipment.

Even so, the 26-year-old goalkeeper continued to attend the training session with the Indonesian national team afterwards.

If Maarten Paes has not been allowed to play against Bahrain, Ernando Ari Sutaryadi can take back the main goalkeeper position in the match later.

If that opportunity came, of course it would be a moment for Ernando to return to show his capacity as a strong competitor for Paes under the Indonesian national team's bar.
