JAKARTA - The XVII 2024 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Solo made important steps by competing in the esport sports (sports) branch.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI), Dito Ariotedjo, said that this was a good step made in the event for the most prestigious athletes with disabilities at the national level.

"In the Asian Para Games, esports (also) have begun to be competed. So, this is an important step to see how the potential for esports in the future will continue to grow," said Dito, quoted by the Kemenpora website.

This year's edition of the esport competition at Peparnas includes two games, namely Mobile Legends and E-Football.

Mobile Legends is designated as an exhibition match, while e-Football is present as one of the numbers being competed.

Dito emphasized that currently esports have very high interest. In addition, esports are no longer a sport that is difficult to socialize.

"I am sure that friends who have limitations will see that esports can be an opportunity to achieve achievements and bring the good name of Merah-White," he said.

Peparnas has been officially opened by President Joko Widodo at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Sunday, October 6, 2024. This event will last until Sunday, October 13, 2024.

A total of 20 sports are competed in this year's edition. The number of participating athletes reached more than four thousand, representing 35 provinces.
