President Atletico Madrid Talks About La Liga Title Opportunities

JAKARTA - Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has supported his team to win La Liga this season, as they enter 2025 as leaders, ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona rivals.

Atletico started 2025 as leaders, with 41 points from 18 matches. They are one point ahead of Real Madrid and three points from Barcelona, who were defeated 2-1 in a dramatic win on December 21, 2024.

Los Rojiblancos, who won twice the league title under Diego Simeone in 2014 and 2021, invested heavily in last summer's transfer market.

They recruited Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher, Robin Le Normand, and Alexander Sorloth to increase their title chances.

"This isn't the first time we've been at the top. This isn't the last time," Cerezo said in an interview with Marca newspaper on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.

"Ending the year in the first position, and thinking about how the team and fans are, gave us confidence to move forward."

"We've always finished in the top three. The hardest years were the years when we ended up champions."

"This year, we have all the possibilities in the world to become champions," Cerezo said again.

Atletico started the season slowly, but have now won 12 games in a row in all competitions.

"We believe our team should be among the top three. Last year, we finished fourth. One of our goals is to be in the Champions League."

"We've been doing it for the last 13 years. Not many teams in Europe have been able to achieve it. We're one of them. Everything is possible," said Cerezo.

Meanwhile, Atletico started in 2025 with a trip to Marbella's headquarters in the Third Round of the Copa del Rey, January 5, 2025. Then, they will host Osasuna in La Liga on January 12, 2025.
