Wushu Continues To Fight To Appear At The 2032 Olympics

JAKARTA The Indonesian Wushu Executive Board (PB WI) continues to strive so that the sports (sports) can officially enter the Olympics in 2032 in Brisbane.

PB WI general chairman, Airlangga Hartanto, said that the federation continues to ask for the involvement of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) to participate in encouraging the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to approve wushu to enter the four-year important event.

"If all processes run smoothly, then by 2032 at the Brisbane Olympics, wushu will be competed," said Airlangga in Jakarta, on Monday, September 30, 2024.

wushu's sport is planned to be played on an exhibition basis at the Youth Olympic 2026 Dakar and the overall exhibition at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, United States.

Airlangga said that Indonesia currently has a qualified stock of young athletes. If you enter the Olympics, wushu sports can be relied on to donate gold medals.

"Just continue to be nurtured so that in the next eight years, they can all maintain this achievement," said Airlangga.

The wushu sport has just won the runner-up achievements of the 2024 Wushu Junior World Championship at Brunei Darussalam which will take place on September 25-29, 2024.

From this event, Indonesia brought home 10 gold medals, 10 silver medals, and nine bronze medals. Indonesia is behind China, which maintains the status of the overall champion.

"A total of 29 medals make us the highest in medals. These athletes in the future will be the mainstay," said Airlangga.

At this time, Wushu has grown in as many as 157 countries. This has actually been more than sufficient to qualify as an official sport at the Olympics.

However, it is not a single requirement for wushu to enter the official Olympic sport. There are other conditions that must be met, such as the federation of parent sports having to be neat, transparent, and active in the Olympic Movement.

The chances of wushu entering the 2032 Olympics will be enormous if it is contested in an exhibition at Dakar in 2026.

The reason is, this event is considered as the main indicator to introduce new sports to the Olympics.
