Jannik Sinner Passes Fierce Duel Against Medvedev To Secure The 2024 US Open Semifinals

JAKARTA The world number one Jannik Sinner beat former champion Daniil Medvedev to reach the semifinals of the US Open 2024.

Italian sinner beat the fifth seed with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, and 6-4 to lock up clashes against Jack Draper in the last four.

Draper is a Sinner couple when playing the men's doubles number. The two of them will face each other on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

"We know each other well. We are good friends off the pitch. It will be very difficult. I am happy to be in the semifinals," said Sinner as quoted by BBC Sport.

Sinner came to the tournament after winning his first Grand Slam career at the Australian Open 2024 earlier this year. Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev is present as a former US Open champion for the 2021 edition.

In addition to one title, Medvedev also reached the final stages of the 2019 and 2023 editions. However, he fell successively in the hands of Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

The meeting was the third clash between Sinner and Medvedev in three of the four Grand Slams this year. However, the tension of this match was not as hot as their previous two clashes.

While meeting in Australia, Sinner was forced to rise from two sets behind Medvedev to win his first Grand Slam title in his career.

Medvedev managed to take revenge in a five-set match in the last eight of Wimbledon 2024 in July.

In total, all four tickets for the men's singles semifinals at the US Open 2024 are complete. Previously, two tickets had been secured by the hosts, namely Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe.
