Shin Tae-yong Makes Sure Jordi Doesn't Play Against Saudi Arabia Because He Is Still Recovering From Injury

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team coach, Shin Tae-yong, confirmed that Jordi Amat would not play during the first match of the 2026 World Cup Qualification Third Round against Saudi Arabia. Jordi was absent in the away match on September 5, 2024 because he was recovering from injury.

Jordi Amat's condition, who had just suffered an injury, turned out to take a long time to recover. This situation prevented him from being included in the list of names to be called.

In order to confirm the current condition of the player, Shin Tae-yong has even called the Johor Darul Takzim player.

"The preparation (of the team) is very good, yes. However, only Jordi (Amat) has a few problems," said Shin Tae-yong when met in Jakarta on Friday, August 23, 2024.

"So during the Malaysian League match, Jordi was injured and did not recover. Finally, he had to rest for the next four weeks," said Shin Tae-yong explaining the player's condition.

"I have called Jordi directly and it was decided that it might be difficult for us to bring him," he said.

With the current situation, Jordi Amat is the second player to be confirmed absent against Saudi Arabia. Previously, there was Justin Hubner who could not be played because of card accumulation from the previous match.

Apart from the condition of the players, Shin Tae-yong is currently preparing the best squad to undergo the Third Round of the 2026 Asian Zone World Cup Qualifiers.

The qualification began in early September 2024. The Indonesian national team is in Group C with Japan, Australia, Saudi Arabia, China, and Bahrain.

The inaugural match will be played on September 5, 2024 against Saudi Arabia. After that, the Red and White Team hosted Australia on September 10, 2024 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

Ahead of the match, the Indonesian national team players were reportedly asked to gather on August 31, 2024 in Jakarta and fly to Saudi Arabia on September 1, 2024.
