Basketball 2024 Olympics: America Unstoppable, Serbia Hard To Go To Semifinals

JAKARTA - The men's 5X5 basketball quarter-finals at the Paris 2024 Olympics have just finished on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, early morning WIB.

Four teams managed to advance to the semifinals, namely France, Germany, the United States, and Serbia.

The quarter-finals opened with Germany's easy win over Greece with a score of 76-63. Franz Wagner continued his good performance at the Olympics, scoring 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

Germany forced 15 turnovers, including nine steals, and scored 20 points from the turnover.

Greece shot the ball efficiently in the three-point line with 68 percent, but they could only shoot three-point successes by 27 percent.

Giannis Antetokounmpo who led Greece performed best for his team with 22 points from 14 shots. However, he has not been able to bring his country to the next round for a medal fight.

The second party brought together Serbia vs Australia. Nikola Jokic and colleagues had to struggle to secure the top four tickets until overtime.

Serbia made a comeback to win 95-90 in extra time. Both teams have 78 percent shot accuracy.

The effectiveness in free throws and scoring points in the second opportunity is differentiating.

Serbia and Australia, the fourth and fifth-placed FIBA teams, drew 8282 to the fourth quarter.

However, Serbia, who have a better percentage in free throws and the second point of chance, can secure victory overtime. They packed 23 points from Australia's second chance of 11.

In addition, Serbia also recorded 18 points from free throws, while Australia was only nine.

Nikola Jokic became the best player for his team. He posted 21 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists.

Bogdan Bogdanovic added 17 points for Serbia, six rebounds, and five assists.

The next match is the meeting of the host France against Canada. France returned to winning ways after losing to Germany in the final match of the group stage.

They won with a convincing score of 82-73 over Canada. France opened the double-digit advantage at the start.

The biggest difference occurred in the free throw line. France fired 42 free throws, while Canada only had 25 free throws. The hosts also had better accuracy, 79 percent compared to 72 percent.

Guerschon Yabusele leads France with 22 points, followed by 20 points from Isaia Cordinier. Victor Wembanyama only scored seven points with a shot accuracy of two from 10 attempts.

The last quarter-finals show the United States' strength over Brazil. LeBron James and colleagues won 12-87.

Brazil appeared competitive early in the first quarter. However, the United States turned things around.

They were unstoppable even though Brazil had scored more points in the third quarter. Extraordinary attacks and tough defenses became the success of the United States to advance to the semifinals.

Devin Booker leads the United States with 18 points, including five of the seven attempted shots in the three-point line. Anthony Edwards added 17 points to the team.

Furthermore, the group phase re-match will be presented in the semifinals of the Paris 2024 Olympics. The match will be held on August 8, 2024 at the Bercy Arena, Paris.
