2024 Olympics: Fajar/Rian Qualify For Quarter Finals

JAKARTA - Indonesian men's doubles pair, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, got tickets to the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

They continued their journey to the knockout stages after winning easily two straight games 21-13 and 21-10 over the host's representative, Ronan Labar/Lucas Corvee, at Adidas Arena, Monday, July 29, 2024, afternoon WIB.

Fajar/Rian are Indonesia's first representatives from badminton (sports) that have passed the group stage of the remaining four representatives in Paris.

On paper, this is Fajar/Rian's second win in the group stage after previously defeating the German pair, Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel, in the first match.

However, the inaugural victory is no longer counted. You see, the German pair has decided to withdraw due to injuries suffered by Lamsfuss.

Fajar/Rian, the 2024 All England champion, then still have one match left in the preliminary round of Group C, namely against Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty.

The match will be the determinant for each pair to qualify as group winners. This duel is interesting because both pairs are former world number one.

Previously, there were already two Indonesian representatives from badminton who were confirmed to be eliminated. They are mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari and women's doubles Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Rinov/Pitha became caretaker of Group A after losing against the host's representative, Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue, in the last match. Meanwhile, Apri/Fadia did not have a chance even though they still had one match.
