Tyson Vs Holyfield Trilogy Plans Messed Up, Iron Mike Rejects Rp. 428.4 Billion Contract Offer

JAKARTA - Mike Tyson rejected the offer of 21.5 million pounds (Rp. 428.4 billion) made by Evander Holyfield's team for the third fight planned for next May. Why?

'Iron' Mike (54) recently revealed on his Hotboxin' podcast that he will be returning to the ring for his second comeback fight in Miami at the end of May.

The former heavyweight champion wore gloves for the first time in 14 years in November. He made a surprising appearance in an exhibition fight against Roy Jones Jr.

After their controversial draw, Tyson set his sights on a return to exhibition bouts this year.

Meanwhile, Holyfield, who defeated Tyson twice, spoke openly of his desire to face his nemesis a third time.

The 58-year-old recently admitted to being in talks with Tyson about a potential trilogy battle. However, the Tyson team rejected the offer of 21.5 million pounds.

Holyfield's manager Kris Lawrence said in a statement on Monday: “We thought this was a finished deal but it quickly fell apart when Tyson's men turned down the offer.

"We've been negotiating with good intentions all this time and it looks like we're wasting our time."

Tyson lost to Holyfield in their first encounter in November 1996. And their rematch six months later became one of the most famous fights in boxing history.

In the third round, Tyson was disqualified for biting Holyfield's ear. He was then banned from fighting for 16 months.

Since then, the two boxers have become good friends. But Holyfield was unhappy with his old enemy's refusal to come back against him.

"Roy Jones is a good local opponent for Mike, but the fight with me will be a global event and the only fight anyone wants to see is the fight between us," said The Real Deal, March 23.

"There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't make it happen. No more excuses. This is a battle that must be fought for both of our legacies. "
