Becoming The Most Expensive Youth Player, Leny Yoro Is Satisfied With Debut With Man Utd

JAKARTA - Scottish midfielder Leny Yoro said he was satisfied with his individual and collective appearance with Manchester United (Man Utd) when he defeated Rangers 2-0 in a pre-season match, in Edinburgh, Scotland, Saturday, July 20, 2024 night.

"For me, this is amazing," said Yoro about his debut at Man Utd after the match.

"This is a very good match for the whole team. I am satisfied with my performance, and hope to continue playing like that," he said.

Yoro was born in 2005, grew up in Lille's training academy, and has just started the 2023-2024 season, with 44 games in all competitions. In total, he played 60 games for Lille in all competitions and scored three goals.

On July 18, Man Utd announced the recruitment of Yoro (18 years) for a total cost of US$ 68 million (around Rp 1.1 trillion), making him the fifth most expensive teenager of all time, after Kylian Mbappe (US$ 201 million), Joao Felix (US$ 141 million), Matthijs de Ligt (US$ 95 million) and Romeo Lavia (US$ 69 million).

Yoro received a salary of US$140,000 or around IDR 2.2 billion per week under a contract until the end of June 2029, with the option to sign an extension of one more year.

Yoro debuted for his new club in a friendly match against Rangers in Edinburgh, Scotland yesterday. The French midfielder played solidly, touched the ball 51 times, swept the ball once, blocked a shot once, tackled one time, won a duel once, and left the pitch early in the second half.

Yoro thanked all the members of Man Utd who helped him quickly adapt to the new environment. "My team-mates and staff helped a lot. They made me feel comfortable," said Yoro.

"On the pitch, we are united. So everything is very good for me," he explained.

After training in Scotland, Man Utd will tour the US, meet Arsenal on July 27, 2024, Real Betis on July 31, 2024, and Liverpool on August 3, 2024.

Yoro is expected to participate in this tour and is ready to face new challenges. Man Utd is preparing to have three very competitive matches in the US, the 18-year-old midfielder said.

"The fans will return to support the team. We will give everything to win this game," he continued.

Man Utd will open the 2024/2025 season with the Manchester derby match against Man City in the English Super Cup on August 10, 2024. This is Man Utd's 31st appearance playing the England Super Cup and the first since 2016.
