George Ogararu Worried About The Sharpness Of Cody Gakpo

JAKARTA - George Ogararu, a former professional player who has played for Ajax for three seasons, expressed concern about the strength of the Dutch national team's attack as Romania prepares to face the Netherlands in the last 16 of the European Cup on Tuesday night, July 2.

Ogararu, who has played in 66 official games for Ajax and 11 times against the Romanian national team, has watched the Dutch performance several times during the tournament. He noted that the Netherlands was very confident and preferred to face Romania over other teams, but also realized that great pressure was on them with high expectations from the team.

According to Ogararu, although the Netherlands has a top defender, their biggest strength lies in the front lines, especially at the Cody Gakpo. "I think Gakpo is a very good player. He is a reliable finisher, good with his head, and knows how to use space. His technique may not be extraordinary, but I am quite worried about him," said Ogararu in an interview with television station Romania, Digi Sport.

Cody Gakpo, who now plays for Liverpool, has scored twice during the group stage for the Netherlands, each in a 1-2 win against Poland and a 2-3 loss to Austria.

Currently, Ogararu serves as the coordinator of a young academy at CSA Steaua, who plays in Romania's second division. Previously, he had also been an assistant coach at Jong Ajax in the 2016/17 season.
