Australian Open 2024: List 8 Indonesian Representatives In The Second Round

Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo is one of those who qualified for the second round of the 2024 Australian Open (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA The first round of the 2024 Australian Open has been completed. A total of eight Indonesian representatives also confirmed that they had qualified for the second round.

The first round of the BWF Super 500 level event which took place at Quaycentre, Sydney, Auatralia, was completed on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, evening WIB. Of the seven Indonesian representatives who played on the second day of the tournament, six of them continued their journey to the second half.

One of the six tickets was secured by mixed doubles Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata. The pair escaped after defeating Pramudya Kusumawardana/Nozomi Shimizu in two straight games, 22-20 and 21-19.

Pramudya is a former colleague of Jafar/Aisyah at the Cipayung PBSI National Training Center (Pelatnas). However, he is now competing to carry the Australian flag after deciding to leave the National Training Center to leave his partner in the men's doubles, Yeremia Rambitan.

"Today's match was quite tight, from start to finish, the score continued to be tight. About today's game, I'm still not too comfortable because I myself still made a lot of mistakes myself," said Jafar after the match.

In the second half, Jafar/Aisyah will face a much tougher test because they meet the second seeded tournament from Hong Kong, Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet.

"To prepare for tomorrow's match, of course the opponent will also be tougher. I just want to focus on facing tomorrow's match."

"I will watch the video recording of the opponent's match first. Moreover, tomorrow's match will be the first meeting," said Jafar.

Jafar/Aisyah are the only mixed doubles left in this tournament from two Indonesian representatives who participated. One other representative, namely Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati, had to be eliminated in the first round.

In addition to the two mixed doubles, the five other Indonesian representatives who played today were Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Putri Kusuma Wardani, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, and Alwi Farhan.

The five women's and men's singles all share the same fate as Jafar/Aisyah. So, a total of the nine representatives sent to this event, only Rehan/Lisa picked up the suitcase early.

Earlier on the first day, a ticket to the second half was secured by a veteran men's doubles, Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan. The pair nicknamed The Daddies won over the host's representative, Lukas Defolky/Ricky Tang.

From the women's doubles, one representative was sent here, namely Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi. Both of them got tickets for the second half without the need to sweat because they got an empty draw.

The second half of the Australian Open 2024 will take place on Thursday, June 13, 2024. The series of matches will start at 12.00 local time or 09.00 WIB.
