JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles Anthony Sinisuka Ginting continued his struggle for the last eight of the 2024 Asian Badminton Championship (BAC) after winning the second round match against the representative of the United Arab Emirates, Somi Romdhani with a landslide score of 21-9, 21-10 in Ningbo, China, Thursday.

According to Ginting, he was able to win quickly because he was not careless, and tried to control and apply the pattern of play from the start.

Lawan also played well, it was proven yesterday that Kanta Tsuneyama (Japan's men's singles) can beat Kanta (Japanese men's singles). Therefore, I remain vigilant because he must have quality. I don't want to be careless, let alone underestimate it. From start to finish, I will push it all over," Ginting said, quoted from a brief statement from PP PBSI.

With this victory, Ginting will meet the host, Li Shi Feng, in the quarter-finals.

The world number three men's singles are determined to prepare themselves more carefully so they can perform prime when facing Li. Moreover, head-to-head, Ginting is 4-1 ahead of the Chinese player.

"For tomorrow's match against Li Shi Feng, of course (the two players) both know, (we) have met many times. I will focus on myself. As part and preparation, I will discuss tonight with the coach," Ginting said.

"Certainly tomorrow it won't be an easy game. It must be admitted, each opponent is also good and will prepare well. Of course Li Shi Feng's opponent will run tight tomorrow. So I think tomorrow's match will be like the final," he said.

So far, Indonesia has placed three of its representatives in the 2024 BAC quarter-finals. Apart from Ginting, Jonatan Christie's men's singles have also advanced to the third round and will face Malaysian representative Lee Zii Jia.

Meanwhile, the women's singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung also qualified for the quarter-finals and will meet the host's seed, Chen Yu Fei.
