Andi Brehme, German Victory Goalscorer In 1990 World Cup Final Dies

Andi Brehme, a legend of the German national team, has died (doc. Getty).

JAKARTA - German legend Andi Brehme died on Monday, February 19, 2024, evening local time after suffering a heart attack.

Brehme died at the age of 63 at the Ziemssenstrasse clinic. The medical assistance that Brehme received was late.

The respect from the world of football has flowed after the news of the grief.

Bayern Munich, Brehme's old club, issued an official statement after learning of the death of their former midfielder.

"FC Bayern is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Andreas Brehme. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends."

"Andreas Brehme will forever be in our hearts, as winners of the World Cup and more importantly as very special people.

He will forever be part of the Bayern FC family. Rest in peace, Andi!" Bayern Munich wrote.

Andi Brehme was a German hero when he won the 1990 World Cup (as West Germany). He scored a winning single goal through a penalty spot in the 85th minute.

The goal brought Germany the third World Cup title while burying Argentina's dream.

The death of Breheme came a month after the death of his German mentor, Franz Beckenbauer.

Previously, Beckenbauer's death was said to have made a deep impression on Brehme.

Brehme left his partner, Susanne Schaefer, and his sons Ricardo and Alessio, from his marriage to Pilar Martinez.

Brehme started his football career in 1978 with HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst. He then left in 1980 to join FC Saarbrucken for a season.

The move to FC▁Duniaslautern took place in 1981 and he spent five seasons in southwest Germany before joining Bayern Munich for two seasons.

He then enjoyed spending time with Inter Milan and Real Zaragoza in the late 80s and early 90s before returning toMINAslautern to end his football career.

Brehme returned to Germany in 1984 and scored eight goals in 86 appearances for his country.

His most important goal came in the summer of 1990, when he scored a winning goal in the World Cup final against Argentina which ended 1-0.
