Shin Tae-yong Reveals The Cause Of The Indonesian National Team's 0-4 Loss To Australia

Shin Tae-yong is happy with the development of Indonesian national team players (doc. PSSI).

JAKARTA - The Indonesian national team had to accept the fact that they were eliminated from the round of 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup following a 0-4 defeat to Australia.

In the match at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium, Qatar, Sunday, January 28, 2024, the Garuda Squad actually performed well.

Shin Tae-yong admitted that the players had performed very well in carrying out their instructions. No wonder, he also appreciated the struggle of his troops and the significant development of players.

However, what is the power, good performance is not enough to silence Australia. Shin Tae-yong agrees that opponents have higher flying hours in terms of experience.

"I think our players did a good job following the coach's instructions," Shin Tae-yong said at a press conference after the match.

"Of course there is a difference in experience that makes our players a bit disappointed. I think that (the experience) is one of the reasons why Australia performed so well today," he said.

If you look at the statistical records regarding possession of the ball, the Garuda squad has 48 percent of the ball, making five shots, one of which is right on target.

You could say, Australia is not very dominant because the Indonesian national team also has efforts to get out of pressure and spread threats.

Although the final result was not satisfactory, Shin Tae-yong did not turn a blind eye to the performance of his team.

"Despite the opponent's first goal, I want to thank my players. I am very happy with our performance," said the South Korean coach.

The Indonesian national team does not want to linger in sadness. Now Shin Tae-yong has shifted his focus to the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers for the Asian Zone against Vietnam in March 2024.
