Malaysia Open 2024: Anthony Ginting To Round Of 16

Anthony Ginting stepped into the last 16 of the Malaysia Open 2024 (doc. PBSI).

JAKARTA Anthony Sinisuka Ginting's men's singles passed the first round of the Malaysia Open 2024 after stopping Su Li Yang.

The fourth place in the world stepped into the second half with the victory of two straight games 21-18 and 21-12 over the Chinese Taipei single at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday, January 9, 2024.

Ginting is one of three Indonesian representatives who managed to qualify for the round of 16 today. Two tickets were previously secured by Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

In the second round, the bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will meet Lu Guang Zu. The Chinese representative qualified after stopping the host's singles, Lee Zii Jia.

If you look at statistics, the match against Lu should be easy for Anthony. In the previous five meetings, Ginting was recorded as always winning.

Anthony Ginting is the only hope of Indonesia's men's singles remaining in the Super 1000 level event after Jonatan Christie was eliminated.

Apart from Jonathan, tickets to the second half also failed to secure the women's singles Kusuma Wardani and the men's doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin.

Putri Kusuma was eliminated after being beaten by the Chinese representative and eighth seed, Han Yue. Meanwhile, Leo/Daniel lost to the Danish pair, Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen.
